The Mundelein Mayor that works for the people!

My name is Robin Meier and I’m running for Mundelein Mayor in 2025.

Please don’t forget to visit my other pages on this website to learn about my positions, policies, priorities, hot topics, Q&A’s page , taxes and fees, and detailed experience qualifying me to be your Mayor. If you are on a mobile phone look at the top right corner and touch the two lines to see other pages.

This website was developed and funded by myself. I run a grassroots campaign without hiring or paying for experts or consultants. My goal is to provide real information, not just political sound bites. In all things I’m fiscally responsible.

  • Substance over political speak

  • Your income, expenses, and savings are important for you to thrive as a member of the community. Keeping your municipal taxes, fees, and other expenses reasonable is important to me so that you can continue to live in the community. I am aware of that when making fiscal decisions.

Mayor Robin will always listen to what you have to say, your thoughts, concerns, and needs

  • I’m elected by the people to manage the village.

  • It is a balancing act to do what is best for everyone.

  • Village decisions may not always be popular, however:

    • I promise that the people will have input into them,

    • Be aware of why that decision was required,

    • Information will be provided,

    • Questions will be answered.

Mundelein will have a new Mayor for the first time in 12 years. Experience matters in a first-time mayor; this is experience that I have. Business and marketing experience is important; however, it is not the only thing important in running a well- balanced community. Prior experience means I typically know what worked and what didn’t work when these situations came up in the past and may come up again in the future. Here are some, but not all, of the things a new Mayor should have prior experience in to hit the ground running, and keep our progress moving forward smoothly in the next coming years, again experience that I have:

I know how to manage and when to implement TIF’s ( Tax Increment Financing), RDA’s (Redevelopment Agreements) with developers, incentive packages that are fair but don’t give away the shop, types of properties retailers and businesses are looking for, when and when not to utilize eminent domain, annexation, and de-annexation. Negotiation skills are a must. Knowing when kid skin or iron fisted gloves are needed is important. I have extensive negotiation experience.

I’ve worked 30 plus years in leadership positions at the 3rd/4th largest global telecommunications company and I have extensive leadership experience.

Mundelein has seen and weathered both good and bad economic and market conditions, and I can and have successfully navigated them. In good market and economic times great growth and development has occurred. The boards and staff have quickly taken advantage of the opportunities available. There can’t be an expectation of retailers and businesses falling into our laps, we and I have to collectively work to get them to choose Mundelein. We need, and I will market our vacant properties and buildings that meet the requirements of businesses seeking locations. Understanding the changing market place after the pandemic and online shopping trends is a must. Learning how we can adapt to change quickly is to our advantage, as is making our processes simple, and being easy to work with.

Hard economic and market conditions require hard decisions, decisions I have made before. Developers have backed out of projects during hard times, and many wonderful projects have fallen through over the years. While I always try to avoid conditions where we may have to enact layoffs, furloughs, reduced work weeks, pay reductions or smaller raises, in some cases it has been unfortunately necessary. In any of those cases I have tried to limit and rectify that as soon as I can. As a trustee I have tried to minimize that there are few to no negative impacts to residents during hard times.

Developments and Incentive Plans. I have been on many negotiation teams for new developments. I know what has worked and what has not worked to bring these developments to a successful conclusion. I know how important responsible incentive plans are. Incentive plans that don’t give away too much, ones that encourage occupancy, and are fair to everyone. I know how to avoid making mistakes of the past.

I will react quickly to extreme weather situations like flooding, blizzards, heat waves and bitter cold is not something you can take your time with. Pulling together public safety organizations like police, fire, public works CERT, Red Cross and others as needed to quickly manage the situation. I have experience in operating Emergency Operations Centers and dealing with real emergency situations.

I have experience in dealing with all the ramifications of pandemic or health situations both economically and from a safety standpoint. Actions must be decided and taken to assist both residents, business owners, and faltering revenues of the village.

I believe communicating with residents/businesses and everyone else is paramount and must be done consistently and timely. Residents/businesses need to be included in what is going on and have more input into some of the major projects that impact their quality of life. I am used to being mostly available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day (give or take).

Not only have I thought of all these things and so much more, I have successfully governed through them and many more situations like them. I have the advantage of knowing what worked and what didn’t work. I am prepared and ready for any and all of these types of situations on day 1 that I am sworn in as Mayor.

First 90 Days and Full Term

The first 90 days is when I would take stock of the policies, actions and plans that are working, and subsequently lead with common sense application of them. It is also the time to identify the policies and actions that are not working, and develop action plans to modify, change, or discontinue anything that is not working. Another first 90 day action plan is to identify new issues and concerns that need to be addressed, and develop steps and plans to tackle those issues.

While it’s important to set the tone and actions in the first 90 days by meeting with residents, businesses, village staff, employees, elected officials within and outside of Mundelein; the responsibility of being Mayor is more than what happens the first 90 days.

My commitment is to lead and support what works, and develop action plans to care for both long standing or new issues and concerns.

Mine is a daily commitment that will cover every day in my term as Mayor, not just the first 90 days.

Talk with the 2025 Mayoral Candidate.

If you’d like to talk one on one, or with a group of friends let me know. Here is an opportunity to really have a meaningful conversation, ask your questions and get answers from your candidate.

In your home and I’ll bring the coffee, or in a public place. Let me know your preference and we’ll get something set up. Invite your friends and neighbors.

Campaigning is not my forte. I’m not a politician that will tell you what you want to hear just to get elected. What I say is based on reality, not false promises, or campaign rhetoric.

I am retired, on a fixed income, and have the time and dedication to give to Mundelein, residents, and businesses.

Your mayor works for you and should be willing to meet with you one on one after they are elected. I will do so.

In Mundelein the candidates all run as independants or a made up political group name, even though most people have a political affiliation. However, when it comes to Mundelein my promise to you is: I work for everyone equally in a non partisan manner. We are stronger as a community together.

As I am on a fixed income with minimal Social Security and pension raises, I understand the financial constraints many are under. I work very hard to both cover the financial and budget needs to run the village, while keeping in mind the financial circumstances of the residents and businesses.

Please check back often to see what you’ve missed. If you don’t see your concern addressed here, please let me know.
